Double Your Donation to The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles

Dec 18, 2014 | by Bradley Carter

Matching contributions generate twice as much through Dec. 24

Now through Christmas Eve, holiday shoppers can double their generosity when they donate to The Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles at hundreds of storefronts across metro Detroit. Every $1 dropped into red kettles will be transformed into a $2 donation thanks to generous matching contributions by Detroit area businesses and community leaders.

The majority of the red kettles will leave storefronts on Dec. 24.

“The Salvation Army traditionally sees an increase in red kettle donations during the final days on the streets,” said Major Mark Anderson, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “Thanks to the generous match made possible by a handful of organizations and individuals across our community, we have an opportunity to collect a tremendous amount in contributions, considering the heavy foot traffic passing by our kettles through Christmas Eve.”

The Salvation Army’s Honorary Red Kettle Corporate Chairman and CEO of Quicken Loans, Bill Emerson, is assisting in the final days of the red kettles on the streets by encouraging people to donate through a series of public service announcements airing on radio and television.

“Quicken Loans is committed to making an impact in the communities we live, work and play in,” said Emerson. “Our 12,000 team members take pride in partnering with The Salvation Army throughout the entire year, but they are especially passionate about helping the organization deliver essential items and services to those who need it most during the holiday season."

All red kettle donations up $400,000 will be matched and will help The Salvation Army reach its 2014 Red Kettle Campaign goal of $9 million to support those in need. Red Kettle donations are vital to ensure the organization can continue providing more than 3.3 million meals and more than 800,000 nights of shelter each year to the less fortunate.
