Coats for Kids Recap

Nov 5, 2014 | by Bradley Carter

Detroit hip-hop radio station FM 98 WJLB raised $59,982 and 348 coats during its 32nd annual Coats for Kids Radiothon on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit. Funds raised during the 12-hour Radiothon will also help provide winter accessories for metro Detroit children in need.

The Salvation Army supporters also enjoyed live appearances by local and national artists Ne-Yo, Ca$h Out, Charli Baltimore, Diggy Simmons, Dusty Mcfly, Icewear Vezzo, K Deezy, Kash Doll, Keely Ferguson, Oba Rowland, SayItAintTone, Teyana Taylor, Tiara Thomas and Torion. The event was hosted by FM 98 WJLB’s lineup of popular on-air personalities.

The Salvation Army and FM 98 WJLB also hosted four mobile coat drives leading up to the Radiothon, giving Salvation Army supporters the chance to donate during live radio broadcasts and radio personality appearances at McDonald’s and MetroPCS locations around metro Detroit.

The Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids campaign was supported by corporate sponsors UAW Ford, McDonald’s, Pepsi Beverages Company, Metro PCS and Marathon Petroleum Corporation.

“WJLB listeners have again shown caring support for children in need through the Coats for Kids Radiothon,” said Major Mark Anderson, general secretary and metro Detroit area Commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “Especially after the harsh winter we had last year, parents across metro Detroit will be thankful their children have the warm coats they need, all thanks to the support of FM 98 WJLB and the generosity of the community.”
