The Sub-Acute Medical Detoxification unit provides peer support, Master’s level therapists and medical care for individuals who present a need for supervised withdrawal from alcohol and drug abuse. Medical staff, including physicians, are available twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. The average length of stay is three to five days.
Those admitted to Turning Point Programs for Detox will be monitored by medically trained staff, medicated as appropriate for pain, provided a daily balanced diet and special nutrition regiments if necessary and educated on chemical dependency.
Detoxification Admission Criteria
- Consumer is 18+ years of age.
- Primary diagnosis of substance abuse disorder.
- Consumer has used alcohol and/or drugs within 72 hours.
- Consumer shows symptoms of physiological withdrawal, e.g. the individual possesses at least one of the following withdrawal symptoms:
--- Tremulousness of hands, tongue and eyelids;
--- Nausea and vomiting;
--- Autonomic hyperactivity, e.g. tachycardia, sweating, elevated blood pressure;
--- Anxiety, depressed mood or irritability, orthostatic hypotension; or, has blood alcohol level of .10 or greater. - Consumer shows evidence of psychosocial deterioration as a consequence to substance abuse.
- Consumer is willing to voluntarily commit to detoxification treatment regimen.
- Consumer is ambulatory.
- The individual does not present a serious medical or psychiatric problem that would interfere with involvement in detoxification treatment.
- Consumer’s level of intoxification results in impairment that indicates need for a structured residential setting for detoxification treatment.
Detoxification Discharge Criteria
- Consumer is medically detoxified
- Successful completion of treatment objectives
- Aftercare medical treatment arrangements (as indicated) are established
- AA/NA/CA involvement has been planned
- Medical complications require referral to another health care provider
- Consumer decision to leave treatment against medical advice
- Administration decision to discharge due to behavior or compliance issues
