Choose An Impactful New Year’s Resolution

Jan 2, 2024

Many of us approach January 1 with a clean slate and want to change some of our habits or create new, healthy ones. It feels wonderful to have a fresh start! In 2024, we urge everyone to add an impactful resolution to their list of personal goals. Not only will you feel better, but you can have a positive impact on others.

We pray you will find ways to:

Strengthen your relationship with Jesus. Everyone is on a different spiritual journey. Some are farther along than others, but there is always room for improvement.

  • If you haven’t been to church for a while—come back! We would love to see you. Check out our services and programs and discover what we offer at the location nearest you. All are welcome to worship with us.
  • Encourage family and friends to attend church with you. Take the opportunity to share more about your church, why you love it, and the role it plays in your life.
  • Continue deepening your faith. Devote your heart to God by reading the Bible, being with other believers, and spending intentional time with Him. Take your concerns to Him and be open to wherever He leads you.

Volunteer in your community. There are so many people and organizations making a positive impact in the world. Select a cause you feel passionately about and get involved. Helping the homeless, volunteering at a food pantry, coaching a youth sports team, or participating in a fundraiser are all important activities where you can make a difference.

  • The Salvation Army is always looking for an extra set of hands. Whether you can help on a regular basis, or during a one-time event, your skills and talents would be appreciated.
  • If you have an idea for a new project or idea, share it with your local Salvation Army Corps. They are empowered to design programs that meet the specific needs of the community in which it resides.

Share your resources. Many businesses, social and sports clubs, schools, churches, individuals and more provide financial and in-kind donations that offset our costs and create a better life for their neighbors. There are many ways to give to The Salvation Army.

  • Remember, the size of a financial donation doesn’t matter. Decide what is comfortable for you and feel good about your contribution.
  • Salvation Army Thrift Stores can always use more items. Whether you’re downsizing, getting rid of clutter or met your new year’s weight loss goal and need a new wardrobe, keep us in mind. Our stores support Adult Rehabilitation Centers  that provide help and hope to individuals with a variety of problems, including issues relating to substance abuse.
  • Think outside the box. Brainstorm ways your company can give back to the community using existing materials, equipment, and personnel.

Because we know that resolutions can be difficult to keep, here is a short prayer to usher in the new year: Let us give thanks for all we hold dear: our health, family, and friends. Let us release our grudges, anger, and pains, for these are nothing but binding chains. Let us live each day in a loving, Jesus-centered way. Amen.
