Going to the dentist has taken on a whole new meaning for some Northlanders thanks to a unique partnership.
Medical Teams International has teamed up with the Duluth Salvation Army to offer dental services for people who can least afford it.
From a routine check up to those needing a cavity filled, two area dentists were available to volunteer their assistance.
"It's something that I think every dentist really likes to do. We don't have to be concerned about insurance companies and payment and government programs. It's just helping people," John Wanio, a volunteer local dentist, said.
"If someone has dental insurance, they will not be served. The requirements are A, you have a financial need, b, you need dental work, and C you don't have dental insurance," Gordy Mesedahl, a Duluth Salvation Army spokesperson, said.
Mesedahl said there was a prescreening process for attending the service.
The van was located near the Salvation Army and an appointment was not required.
