We combat natural disasters with acts of God

Disasters of incredible magnitude call for people of incredible generosity.

We combat natural disasters with acts of God.

While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army's disaster program consists of several basic services. And while these services address many of the typical needs of a disaster survivor, Salvation Army disaster relief is also flexible. Our services are adapted to the specific needs of individuals and communities and scalable according to the magnitude of the disaster.

The Salvation Army helps meet the needs of disaster survivors through

Emergency Preparedness

As one of the largest disaster relief organizations in the country, The Salvation Army recognizes the need to be prepared. We educate other first responders and the public about how to prepare for and respond to natural disasters and aid in the development of emergency disaster plans.

Immediate Emergency Response

Natural disasters strike without much warning, so The Salvation Army is ready to jump into action on short notice. We gather donations, resources, and volunteers in a predetermined staging area so we're ready to help as soon as the federal, state, or local government declares the area safe to enter. Our disaster assistance includes providing food, water, and shelter to victims, lending a hand with cleanup, and putting people in touch with their loved ones.

Long-Term Disaster Recovery

The Salvation Army continues to aid victims of natural disasters throughout the recovery process. We collaborate with local, state, and federal governments to develop and execute a long-term disaster relief and recovery plan, including restoration and rebuilding initiatives, meeting basic needs, covering medical expenses, cutting funeral costs, and distributing in-kind donations to help victims rebuild their lives.

Spiritual and Emotional Care

Not all aftermath of natural disasters is visible to the naked eye. The Salvation Army helps treat the emotional stress and trauma of disaster victims and first responders with emotional support and spiritual comfort. Whether it's lending a listening ear, offering a hug, joining together in prayer, or simply being present, Salvation Army counselors are ready to help.

Locally, we provide service to First Responders in Emergency Situations, Emergency Management Officials, Training Exercises, and large scale local events. We are always in need of volunteers to help carry out the mission of The Salvation Army, to serve those in need without discrimination. If you are interested in joining our EDS Team, please see the training dates below and let us know when you would like to attend.
