Great Lakes Division Members Attend Rose Parade Delegation
The annual New Year’s Day Tournament of Roses parade is held in Pasadena, California, and has a five-and-a-half-mile route that travels down Colorado Boulevard. The parade includes floral-decorated floats, equestrian units and bands.
Every year The Salvation Army marches, with each division sending delegates to join the band. This year more members from the Great Lakes Division were sent due to extra spaces available. The six Great Lakes Division members were:
- Drew Bell, Katie Bell, and Laura Bell (Flint Corps)
- Manny Coppin (Royal Oak Corps)
- Timothy McDonald (Fulton Heights Citadel)
- Christopher Ward (Senior Director of Music & Gospel Arts for the Great Lakes Division)
Chris Ward has been the Senior Director of Music and Gospel Arts in the Great Lakes Division since March of 2018.
Timothy McDonald, a sophomore studying music education at Grand Valley State University, is an active participant at the Fulton Heights Corps music program. He plays bass guitar in the praise band and euphonium in the brass band. This will be his second time participating in the Rose Parade.
“I am always grateful for these sorts of events, it gives me an opportunity to spend time with fellow believers and musicians who love the lord,” said Timothy.
This year marks The Salvation Army Tournament of Roses Band’s 105th march down Colorado Boulevard in the Rose Parade. Along with members from across the United States, there will also be members from Bromley, England.
This fun New Year’s tradition was a great opportunity for Salvation Army members to come together and entertain spectators with their talented music ministry.
If you would like to join in The Salvation Army’s mission to Do The Most Good at a location near you, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer at your local Corps, or donate.
