Anonymous Gifts Will Double Donations to The Salvation Army of La Porte for Three Days
Red Kettle donations in La Porte will be matched up to $7,500 December 12-14
La Porte shoppers are out looking for great holiday deals, and The Salvation Army has one that will make gifts twice as nice. On December 12, 13, and 14 all gifts made to Red Kettles at local businesses will be doubled thanks to anonymous local donors. This means that a $5 bill becomes $10 and every $20 turns into $40. The donors are offering up a combined $7,500 in matching dollars and is encouraging shoppers to dig a little deeper in their pockets to help out those in need in La Porte County.
With just 12 days left of bell ringing at Red Kettles, this gift comes at a critical time. Funds raised during this annual fundraising campaign make it possible to provide vital programs and services throughout the following year. Emergency assistance, food, and community center programs are all supported by the Red Kettles.
"These dedicated donors are passionate about our programs, especially the weekly backpack program for school kids and our Thursday evening community meals," said Major Katie Pinkston of The Salvation Army La Porte Corps. "They know how much this Red Kettle Campaign means to the success of these programs and are hoping that others will see their generosity and want to do the same. It's such a blessing to be a part of a community where people are excited to help their neighbors in need and find creative ways to make an impact."
The Salvation Army's backpack program is currently serving 13 area schools by providing backpacks filled with food to 758 students every Friday throughout the school year. Two additional schools are hoping to join the program and add another 170 students to the list in 2025, and it is Major Katie's hope that a successful Red Kettle Campaign will make this possible.
"We're trying to raise about $150,000 this Christmas through our Red Kettles and other donations," she shared. "Inflation has made everything more challenging, but we're determined to help as many people as we can!"
Shoppers looking for a Red Kettle this week will find bell ringers at Walmart, Kabelin's, Kroger, Al's, and the U.S. Post Office. Volunteer bell ringers are still needed to man every kettle the full three days of the match. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell this week is invited to visit RegisterToRing.com and find a location, date, and time that works for their schedule.
Every donation given to The Salvation Army through the annual Red Kettle Campaign provides help and hope to those in need, and all gifts stay right here in the community where it is given.
