Christmas Blessing: Kettle Donations Doubled in Final Days of Bell Ringing
With just days left in The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign, and anonymous donor has stepped forward to offer a matching gift for the final three days of bell ringing. Thanks to this supporter, all donations dropped into Red Kettles December 21, 22, and 23 will be doubled up to $5,000. This means that each $5 bill becomes a $10 gift and makes twice the impact in the community.
"At this point we are at only 40% of our Red Kettle goal, so this gift will go a long way to help close the gap," said Major Charles Pinkston of The Salvation Army of La Porte. "We've seen so many new clients in the last few months who have never needed assistance before, so the need is definitely there. We truly appreciate every person who has made a donation and those who will continue to donate these last few days of bell ringing.”
Donations to the Red Kettles support Salvation Army ministries throughout the year, including assistance programs for rent, utilities, and food. A combination of increased demand for assistance and recent inflation has put an extra burden on nonprofits like The Salvation Army as dollars do not go as they once did. The anonymous donor who is providing this $5,000 matching gift hopes to inspire extra generosity from shoppers to help make up for this imbalance of needs and resources.
Shoppers looking for a Red Kettle through December 23 will find bell ringers at Walmart, Kroger, Kabelin's, Al's, and the U.S. Post Office. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell this holiday season is invited to visit RegisterToRing.com and find a location, date, and time that works for their schedule. Volunteers are still needed to man kettles this week to help The Salvation Army reach its Christmas fundraising goal.
