The Salvation Army of La Porte Welcomes New Leadership
Public invited to installation service and “Meet the Majors” open house on September 7

La PORTE, August 25, 2025 – The Salvation Army of La Porte will officially welcome new leadership during a public installation service on Sunday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. at 3240 Monroe Street, La Porte. The event marks the beginning of a new chapter as Majors Dale and Becky Simmons take on county-wide leadership of both the La Porte and Michigan City corps, effective September 1, 2025.

The public is invited to attend the worship service, followed by a community reception and “Meet the Majors” open house from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the La Porte location. Community members, partner agencies, and supporters are encouraged to stop by to meet Majors Dale and Becky Simmons in an informal setting and learn more about the mission and vision for The Salvation Army’s work throughout La Porte County.

This shared leadership model is part of a strategic effort to strengthen outreach and services across the entire county. By combining leadership and coordinating resources, The Salvation Army aims to expand its reach and deepen its impact, serving individuals and families with emergency assistance, case management, youth programs, and spiritual care in both communities.

Majors Dale and Becky Simmons are well-acquainted with the needs of La Porte County, having served in Michigan City since 2018. With prior appointments in Lake County, Chicago, Missouri, and Kansas, they bring a depth of experience and a heart for community-centered ministry.

“We are excited to step into this new role and continue serving the people of La Porte County with compassion, dignity, and hope,” said Major Becky Simmons. “Our goal is to build on the strong foundation that already exists in both cities and work together as one unified team to meet the growing needs in our community.”

Major Dale Simmons added, “The strength of The Salvation Army lies in our ability to adapt to meet local needs. By serving La Porte County as a whole, we can share resources, build stronger partnerships, and ultimately serve more people more effectively across the entire county.”

The Salvation Army’s tradition of officer appointments ensures that leadership reflects the unique needs of each community it serves. Majors Dale and Becky Simmons will continue to lead the Michigan City location while also guiding the mission in La Porte, following the transition of Majors Charles and Katie Pinkston to new appointments in Muncie and Richmond, Indiana.
