Buddy’s Pizza Celebrates National Detroit-Style Pizza Day at Detroit Harbor Light Kitchen

On Monday July 12, volunteers from Buddy’s pizza prepared meals at The Salvation Army Detroit Harbor Light’s community kitchen. They were accompanied by Buddy’s Chief Brand Officer, Wesley Pikula.
“We’re at the Salvation Army’s community kitchen, and The Salvation Army has always been a dear part of Buddy’s Pizza, going back 36 years. For the last three years, we’ve had our National Detroit Style Pizza Day on June 23rd. So, every year, during that event, we donate a dollar back for every pizza sold to The Salvation Army,” Pikula said.
The volunteers helped Chef Michael Block prepare salads, cookies, and more to be served to the homeless of Detroit, as well as residents of the substance use disorder treatment services on the Detroit Harbor Light campus.
In addition to assisting with food prep, Buddy’s also donated pizzas for employees and residents of the Harbor Light facility.
Regarding the kitchen, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Harbor Light System, Jamie Winkler said:
“The Salvation Army has this beautiful community kitchen. It’s a space where we produce over two million meals every single year. So, this is a great opportunity for businesses, churches, and organizations to get behind the great work that The Salvation Army is doing.”
This event is just one example of multiple ways Buddy’s is helping to Do the Most Good in Detroit. From supporting the Bed & Bread Club® program to serving as The Salvation Army’s first-ever Red Kettle Pizza Partner for the Metro Detroit Red Kettle Campaign, they have collectively helped thousands of people in need.
Buddy’s has been around for 77 years, and one of the big tenets of our company is that we give back to communities, and The Salvation Army because of the work that they do,” said Pikula.
