Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Unites Communities to Fight Food Insecurity

 

On Saturday, May 10, the National Association of Letter Carriers hosted its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive—the largest one-day food collection effort in the country.

 

Since its launch in 1993, this nationwide initiative has helped deliver tens of millions of pounds of food to those in need. With over 34 million Americans facing food insecurity, these donations are crucial in supporting local food banks and organizations such as The Salvation Army.

 

The concept is simple yet powerful: letter carriers distribute bags for residents to fill with non-perishable food items. On the designated day, residents leave the filled bags by their mailboxes, and letter carriers collect and deliver the donations to nearby food banks.

 

More than a food drive, Stamp Out Hunger unites communities with a shared purpose—to assist families facing hunger and hardship. It serves as a reminder that small actions, when amplified across neighborhoods, can create a meaningful impact.

· Kalamazoo – 8,009 pounds of food donated

· Lansing- awaiting totals

· Midland – 1,123 pounds of food donated

· Muskegon - awaiting totals

· Niles - awaiting totals

· Plymouth - awaiting totals

· Royal Oak – 39,352 pounds of food donated

· Saginaw - awaiting totals

· Sturgis – 3,905 pounds of food donated

· Traverse City - awaiting totals

· Warren - awaiting totals

· Grand Total58,830 pounds of food donated
