Michigan City Salvation Army honors volunteers who 'did the most good' in 2022

Phil Janik, owner of The Hoosier Bee Man honey farm in La Porte, is presented the Bell Ringer of the Year honor from Major Becky Simmons of the Michigan Salvation Army at Friday's Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. He was honored for raising nearly $1,000 during the Red Kettle Campaign. Simmons recalled how he even offered to volunteer to ring bells in spite of an incoming blizzard.

MICHIGAN CITY — As a thank you for keeping with their mission of doing the most good and loving others beyond their own circumstances, the Michigan City Salvation Army last week recognized those who fed and helped people in need.

As part of National Volunteer Week, the Salvation Army held a “Love Beyond” luncheon at its headquarters Friday to thank the numerous volunteers who helped out in 2022.
