THE SALVATION ARMY RED KETTLE CAMPAIGN EXCEEDS $100,000.00 GOAL

Jan 3, 2019

January 2, 2019, Petoskey, MI- The Salvation Army, Petoskey Corps Red Kettle Campaign raised more than $115,000.00; a record high, that exceeded their campaign goal by $15,000.00. Although the initial goal was surpassed, the money comes during a critical time as funding for emergency assistance programs has become more and more exhausted while the need for help continues to grow and the cost of utilities such as natural gas, propane and electricity continue to rise.

Last year The Salvation Army provided more than $300,000.00 through their Emergency Financial Assistance Program alone which helps low-income individuals and families with basic necessities such as heat, electricity, rent or emergency auto repair. That figure does not include money that is spent on the many year-round programs such as After School Program, Senior Living, Holiday Assistance, and Addiction Recovery Support and Friday Night Live Community Dinners which are held 52 weeks per year.

Tim Nixon, Lite96.3 and Red Kettle Campaign Chairman for 2018 said "What an honor to participate with the Salvation Army and all the volunteers who so generously bundled up and gave of their time.  People responded in a record setting way and this provides the funds to help in so many different ways, those who are facing difficulties.  Thanks again to the Salvation Army and all who responded this Christmas season and throughout the rest of this year".

“We could never accomplish our goal without the help of our Campaign Chairman, Tim Nixon, the many volunteers and service clubs such as Rotary Clubs of Petoskey and Elk Rapids, Kiwanis Clubs of Petoskey and Charlevoix and Boyne Valley Lions to name a few. Thank you to the outstanding men and women who gave their time to ring the bell, to the many generous citizens in our community who gave throughout the holiday season and to God for making all things possible” says Envoy, Greg Irwin of The Salvation Army, Petoskey Corps.
