Waukesha Officer Ordered to Florida: Hurricane-Disaster Leadership
Major Nelson De LaVergne, corps officer of The Salvation Army of Waukesha County, has been ordered to Panama City, Florida through the end of October.
Major De LaVergne is an ordained minister, specially trained in emotional and spiritual caregiving. He flies out of Milwaukee Mitchell International Wednesday at mid-day.
His assigned duties are to provide counseling, emotional, and spiritual support to both victims and aid workers who are toiling amidst the utter devastation of Hurricane Michael.
He joins hundreds of other Salvation Army trained leadership, staff, and volunteers already working in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. De LaVergne has been with The Salvation Army for forty years, thirty-five as an officer.
Prayers for the safety, well-being, and recovery of storm victims are requested. Prayers are also appreciated for Major's safety in his travels, and for his success in being of loving support to those with whom he will be coming into contact over the next two to three weeks.
