Alpena Helped The Salvation Army "Rescue Christmas"

Feb 4, 2021

Alpena County, MI –The Salvation Army of Alpena made a call for help to #RescueChristmas in 2020, and our community answered at the Red Kettle. In a year of unprecedented need, we expected a possible 50% decrease in fundraising at the Red Kettle. Instead, we were able to meet our goal and provide help to so many in need. That is because of partners, donors, and tireless workers who stepped up amid the affects by #COVID19 in 2020.

“As we watched the monetary gifts and toys come in, we were excited because each dollar and toy meant another child and adult was going to be served,” Major Prezza Morrison explained. “Our $155,000 goal was reached, and we were able to serve 392 children with gifts, 737 people with a Christmas meal, and 272 Nursing Facility Seniors with Christmas Gifts. These funds will also assist us in helping the needs of our Alpena County neighbors in 2021”. The Salvation Army would not be able to serve those in need in this county without the help of its generous partners, donors, and bellringers. The Army wishes to thank you all for giving from your heart during this difficult time for all. You are giving hope to those who need to feel hope this coming year. The Salvation Army is not the Salvation Army without you.

As 2021 begins, The Salvation Army doors are still open weekly from 9:00am - 3:30pm. We assist with utility bills, food and personal care items, youth and adult programs, spiritual assistance and more. Volunteers are needed to help in our programs. Please call 989-358-2769 for questions or more information concerning our programs.

Monetary donations are still accepted via mail or in person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center at 722 N. Second Ave Alpena, MI 49707 or via telephone, Major Prezza Morrison, 989- 358-2769 Ext:12. Donations can also be made online. Thank you for your continued support of The Salvation Army of Alpena County.
