The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of July 25

Jul 22, 2022

For most of us, the challenge of this command undoubtedly comes more with the “resting in” God than with the “returning to God.” Shouldn’t we be “doing” something for God -- something meaningful, lasting and important -- we might wonder? Resting doesn’t seem like nearly enough. And yet, God knows we can’t have one without the other; “returning” and “resting” are two halves of one whole. In our resting, we surrender; we relinquish control. In other words, we trust, and in trusting God, we give our whole selves to Him. We are not able to truly give ourselves to God –- to return to God with our whole selves –- unless we allow ourselves to fully rest in Him.
