Volunteers are the Heart of our Team.

The service and commitment of our volunteers enable The Salvation Army to:

Provide food to families facing a shortage
Reach out to the elderly and those facing hardship in our communities 
Be a place of love and support for children
Make the holidays a time of joy for those in need
Give hope to those facing disaster

Year Round Opportunities

Pantry Worker: Stocking shelves, assist clients in taking food to their cars, date incoming shipments for storage.

Grounds Keeper: Sweeping, mowing, raking, cleaning up trash around the grounds, washing windows, etc.

Car or Van Driver: Picking up before and dropping off after various church programs.

Youth Programs: Assist in leading youth programs-Girl Guards, Sunbeams, Adventure Corps, G.R.O.W., teaching Sunday School.

Licensed Beautician’s: Cutting and styling the hair of our clients.

Emergency Response Team: Preparedness in responding to disasters.

After School Kids Program: One on one tutoring, homework help and recreation.

Seasonal Opportunities

BELL RINGING: Representing The Salvation Army at one of our kettle sites, ringing a bell and collecting donations, greeting people with a smile. Call The Salvation Army, 269-963-3640 for more information OR click the link below!  MINIMUM two hour slots are required, and PLEASE, if you sign up –show up!  A bell, apron, and red kettle will be provided for you!  The Red Kettle Campaign raises funds to support The Salvation Army year around, providing food, assistance, and HOPE.  The Campaign runs November 8 through December 24.

COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING MEAL -- The Salvation Army Battle Creek Corps is hosting a Community Thanksgiving Meal on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2019, at The Salvation Army Sally’s Kitchen, 400 Capital Ave. NE.  A full Thanksgiving meal, cooked in SALLY’S KITCHEN at The Salvation Army will include turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy, buttered corn and lots more, including pumpkin pie!

The meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. –1:00 p.m.  Volunteers are needed to help serve the guests, and clean up.  Those wishing to volunteer may arrive at 10:30 a.m. to sign in and receive instructions.

Donations of Turkey, instant potatoes, dressing mix, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, JELL-O, and pumpkin dessert are needed.  These items may be purchased and brought to The Salvation Army by November 15.  Monetary donations to help with the cost of providing the supplement box are also appreciated.  Please mark the donation for THANKSGIVING supplement box.

VOLUNTEER GROUPS FOR TOY SHOP:  The Salvation Army Battle Creek Corps is seeking volunteer groups and individuals to help set up and work at The Salvation Army Toy Shop for Christmas, 2019.  Toys that are being collected now through December 18th, will be sorted and set up by age groups in the gym at 400 Capital Ave. NE.  The Toy Shop set up will be held on Thursday & Friday, December 12 and 13, and Monday-Wednesday, December 16-18, from 9am –7pm.  For large groups, please call 269-963-3640 to arrange work schedule.

FOOD AND TOY SHOP FOR CHRISTMAS Volunteers are also needed on Distribution Days, December 19 and 20, from 8:30 a.m. –4:30 p.m.  There are two shifts available each day, 8:30 –Noon, and 1:00-4:30 p.m.  Please call The Salvation Army office to schedule your group to help, at 269-963-3640.  Volunteers will assist families in receiving new toys for their children, as well as food boxes for Christmas dinner.  Children under age 15 may volunteer with a parent supervising them.

MITTENS, GLOVES, HATS SCARVES are needed to distribute during the cold winter months.  Businesses are encouraged to have collection sites and to bring the donated NEW items to The Salvation Army, 400 Capital Ave. NE.  Collections should be dropped off by December 18th.


 

Even the smallest tasks, like helping with office work or ringing bells at Christmas, support our mission and, in the end, help change lives in our community for the better. We couldn't do it without you!  Thank you for helping us make our community a place of hope.
