The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of January 30

It’s said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

We all see beauty in different ways. What’s beautiful to you may not be beautiful to your neighbor, co-worker or your sibling.

If you’ve ever been to an art museum or art show, there are multiple interpretations of what’s beautiful. You may look at Waterlilies by impressionist painter Claude Monet and see nothing but a chaotic mess, while your partner sees beauty in the strokes, color palate and underlying messages.

The same goes for something as simple and natural as an evening sunset. To some, it’s a striking example of God’s paintbrush – a gift to mankind. To others, it’s something they don’t notice or appreciate because they are so preoccupied with life. It’s just another end to the day.

The bottom line is that God gives us ample examples of beauty – examples that we can choose and decide what resonates with us. We all don’t see the world the same way, so we all see beauty through our own personal lens.

The key is not to miss what’s beautiful to us. It could be fleeting like the instance a baby takes their first step or your daughter wears her first prom dress or hits her first homerun.

We need to take the time to appreciate, value, absorb and remember. Our minds take the best photos and videos that we can revisit as often as we want. But if we miss it when it happens, we often don’t get the chance to see it again.
