We offer both short-term solutions and long-term strategies
to help people in need overcome poverty.
More than 16 percent of residents in Rapid City and the surrounding area live below the federal poverty line. And yet, we don't always recognize poverty, even when it's in our own community.
Many of these individuals and families don't earn enough to cover basic expenses like food and rent. Others are one car repair or one unexpected medical expense away from a financial crisis. We're here to help those in need overcome these obstacles.
Utilities and Material Assistance
No one should ever have to choose between paying the electric bill and putting food on the table. We help low-income individuals and families close the gap when there is a financial shortfall. We also provide clothing and household goods to people in need.
Back-to-School Supplies
The cost of new school supplies can add up quickly. As a result, families living within a limited budget often find the back-to-school season particularly challenging. We partner with local elementary schools and collect school supplies from public donations to help kids get what they need to start the school year off on the right foot. Additionally, we are proud to work with Miss Alaska USA to provide "Equal Chances for an Equal Future" by collecting donations of school supplies for children and schools in need both locally and around the world. Find out more by visiting the Equal Chances for an Equal Future Facebook page or by clicking here.
Christmas Assistance
Because the holidays can put an even greater strain on an already-tight budget, we provide toys and food at Christmas to families in need.
Food Programs
Hunger is one of the most crushing effects of poverty. It is our desire to help families and individuals get the nutritional staples they need. Learn more about how we help cure hunger.
Pathway of Hope
The goal of Pathway of Hope is to guide families with children 18 years and younger through crisis and instability to a place of security in order to ultimately break the intergenerational cycle of poverty. We offer strengths-based casework, providing services such as:
