Anonymous Donor gives back hoping to inspire others to donate
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
This timeless verse from Matthew 6:21 came to life in the most unexpected way during The 30th WIBC Radiothon for The Salvation Army. Among the cheerful sounds of holiday jingles and heartwarming stories, an anonymous donor delivered a gift unlike any other—a handcrafted "box of treasure" that captured the true spirit of the season.
The wooden treasure box, lovingly wrapped in a map of Indianapolis, bore a special mark: a heart placed precisely over our location. Its contents were as eclectic as they were meaningful, each item a symbol of generosity and hope.
Inside the box were several silver coins, including an Australian kookaburra coin, a rarity that immediately drew admiration. Nestled alongside was a Peyton Manning rookie card, cherished by sports enthusiasts, and a handmade pearl necklace crafted by a local artisan. Adding a touch of Indianapolis heritage, a vintage racing necklace was donated by a local jeweler who had been inspired to contribute after hearing about this extraordinary gift.
The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared that their inspiration came from others who have given generously, especially those who drop gold coins into our kettles every Christmas season. They spoke of wanting to "combat the greed" they’ve observed in the world by putting their "treasure where their heart is." For this donor, that meant joining the mission to make Christmas magical for the children of Indianapolis.
The anonymous donor emphasized their belief that God sends angels to watch over children, reminding us that “their faces are constantly before our Father in Heaven.” Their contribution is more than a gift; it’s a call to action for us all to look beyond ourselves and to invest in a brighter, more hopeful future for the next generation.
This treasure box has sparked a ripple effect of generosity. From the jeweler inspired to give, to listeners who called in, sharing their own "treasures" while the story aired, the magic of Christmas is unfolding in ways we never imagined.
Each donation, large or small, carries the potential to transform lives. As we reflect on the treasure box and the selfless act behind it, we’re reminded that true treasure lies not in material wealth but in the hearts of those who give. Every gift is a testament to the power of community and the belief that we can make a difference—together.
So, this holiday season, we invite you to join this wave of giving. Whether it’s a dollar in the kettle, a toy for a child, or a treasure from your own heart, your contribution helps ensure that every child in Indianapolis feels the magic and love of Christmas. After all, where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
