By providing programs that serve the body, mind and soul, The Salvation Army helps alleviate the symptoms of poverty - and works to address the root issues that cause it.
Poverty is a cyclical state that often requires support to escape. The Salvation Army sees local individuals and families who struggle with this cycle first-hand. Their challenges may be a result of events that were out of their control or by simply always feeling a step behind.
Our mission has served those in poverty since 1865. We know how best to identify a person's root causes of poverty and begin guiding them towards self-sufficiency.

How we help overcome poverty
- Pathway of Hope - The Salvation Army has seen tremendous success bringing families out of generational poverty through our Pathway of Hope program. Alongside a dedicated case manager, families enrolled will plan and set goals, get connected to both internal and external resources, and ultimately learn how to support themselves out of poverty and into a new chapter of hope.
- Homeless Assistance & Prevention - We make it our mission to meet the person behind the issue and treat the causes of homelessness and give sustainable change. This is made possible through our different approaches to treating root causes. From emergency housing & shelter to bill assistance on the way to reliable housing, The Salvation Army meets our homeless community in every way.
- Food Assistance Services - Feeding the hungry in our community is a large part of preventing poverty. Through our many food programs, we are able to bring warm meals and genuine connection to those in need every day. This can become the impact that takes someone out of poverty.
- The Salvation Army Canteen Run - The Canteen Run is a mobile service in our community that distributes essential goods including food, drinks, clothing, blankets, local resource information, and prayers to those in need, many of whom are on the streets.
