Salvation Army to Provide Support to United Center and Other Vaccination Sites

Mar 9, 2021

The Salvation Army is pleased to support local, state, and federal personnel at the city’s new mass vaccination site at the United Center, beginning today, March 9.

Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services, or EDS, teams will deliver snacks and bottled water to 250 individuals staffing the site, seven days a week. The support comes at the request of the City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management & Communications.

“This is our typical role in response to any kind of a disaster event or crisis. We assess the needs and respond to those fundamental needs, and in this case, it’s making sure people are well hydrated,” said Major David Dalberg, Salvation Army Divisional Director of Emergency Disaster Services. “We have adapted to meet those needs and offer support to the city in a variety of ways since the start of the pandemic, and we’ll continue to do so for as long as needed."

In addition to the United Center, EDS has been providing the following support to other sites across Cook County:

  • Three meals daily for Team Rubicon volunteers assisting with the city’s testing and vaccination efforts

  • Snacks and bottled water at eight city vaccination sites, including the City Colleges of Chicago, five days a week

  • Snacks and bottled water at four Cook County vaccination sites, five days a week

Salvation Army EDS will be prepared to support additional vaccination sites, as requested.
