The Salvation Army Continues to Serve in Wake of Hurricane Michael

Oct 23, 2018

The recovery from Hurricane Michael continues, and is expected to continue for years to come. The Salvation Army has deployed officers, staff and volunteers from across the United States, Canada and Bermuda to support survivors as they return to their homes to start the rebuilding process. They are providing meals, beverages, snacks, hygiene and clean-up kits, food boxes, and emotional and spiritual care.

"Lives are being touched, lives are being changed," says Major Ed Binnix, Incident Commander for The Salvation Army's relief operation in the Tallahassee area. "They're learning that there are people outside of their community that care about them."

In response to Hurricane Michael, the Army has provided:

  • 356,087 meals
  • 205.542 drinks
  • 205,701 snacks
  • 4,171 food boxes
  • 1,927 hygiene kits
  • 1,009 clean-up kits
  • Emotional and spiritual care for 25,398 individuals
  • 38,015 hours of service
  • 58 mobile kitchens are still in service

In times of disaster, the best way to help survivors and relief workers is to make a financial contribution. Monetary donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of disaster survivors.
