COVID-19 Can't Stop Christmas for Children In Need

Dec 21, 2020

Last week all around metro Detroit, volunteers and staff worked tirelessly to prepare toy bags for families in need, and the Dearborn Heights Corps Community Center was no exception. The number of workers was limited because of safety restrictions, but the corps was able to pack Christmas gifts for up to 235 families (roughly 585 children) to give out this week in its drive through distribution.

In years past, families were able to come into corps buildings and select toys for their children. COVID-19 has made that impossible, but Salvation Army staff and volunteers stepped up to the plate this year by packing bags of toys after families signed up.

"It’s been an extra crazy Christmas this year," said Captain Shannon Martinez, "But God has been faithful just the same! We are so grateful for our supporters throughout the community helping us ‘Rescue Christmas’ for children and families in need.”
