20th Annual Freezin’ for Food Drive a Smashing Success
Saturday, December 5, was the finale of the 20th annual Freezin’ for Food drive sponsored by DeKalb radio station WLBK to benefit the food pantry at The Salvation Army of DeKalb County.
The event was held over three days in the parking lot of HyVee and collected $19,701 in monetary donations and 5,419 pounds of non-perishable foods. This shatters the previous record from 2019, when $6,185 was collected.
WLBK radio host TD Ryan started this event 20 years ago with the support of the community. On Saturday, Major Angie and Captain Stephen Hansen, officers at the DeKalb Salvation Army Corps Community Center, presented him with Salvation Army swag to say thank you for the impact he has had on DeKalb for the past 20 years.
With tears streaming down his face, TD shared live on the air about three "saints of the cause” who helped get the drive started and supported it ever since. All three have passed away recently, but in each case family members gave this year in their honor to commemorate their loved ones’ heart for and service to the DeKalb community.
Thank you, DeKalb County, TD, WLBK, and all of The Salvation Army’s partners in mission!
