Here are a few ways you can partner with The Salvation Army of Des Moines to help bridge the gap for people in need this holiday season.
A large percentage of the funding that supports The Salvation Army’s human needs programs in the Des Moines metro comes directly from donations to our iconic red kettles during the holiday season. Bell ringing for The Salvation Army is a great way to celebrate Christmas and make a lasting impact on your community at the same time. Sign up to Register to Ring at a location in Des Moines today. Plus, don’t miss Salvation Army Night at the Iowa Wild game on Dec. 7 at Wells Fargo Arena, featuring a partnership between The Salvation and WWE. We’ll have our red kettles there, plus other ways to support our work in the community.
Each year dozens of businesses in the Des Metro metro serve as Angel Tree locations to ensure that thousands of children have gifts to open on Christmas Day. Donors can pick a tag with a child’s age, gender and suggested gift item, purchase a gift and then return the unwrapped gift to the Angel Tree location, where it will be donated to The Salvation Army and distributed at Toyland on Dec. 16, 17 and 18. Help make the holiday special for a child in need – call Randee Wirth at 515-282-3599 for more information and to get gift tags for your Angel Tree.
We’ll match you with a family in need to ensure there are gifts under the tree and food on the table on Christmas. Call Leathra Hendrickson at 515-282-3599 to sign up to sponsor a family.
Parents who signed up to receive Christmas Assistance from The Salvation Army are invited to select gifts for their children on Dec. 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. – noon and 1 - 4:30 p.m. and on Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Boy Scouts Mid-Iowa Council, 6123 Scout Trail, Des Moines.
