Help ease the financial burden of the holidays.

Every year many parents in the Des Moines metro are forced to choose between paying monthly bills and buying Christmas gifts for their children. You can help.

The holiday season offers even more opportunities to give.

The sight of our red kettles and the sound of ringing bells are a reminder that as we celebrate the birth of Christ, we are called to care for our neighbors in need. The Salvation Army of Des Moines offers a number of seasonal programs that meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of individuals and families.

Here are a few ways you can partner with The Salvation Army of Des Moines to help bridge the gap for people in need this holiday season.

Red Kettle Bell Ringing

A large percentage of the funding that supports The Salvation Army’s human needs programs in the Des Moines metro comes directly from donations to our iconic red kettles during the holiday season. Bell ringing for The Salvation Army is a great way to celebrate Christmas and make a lasting impact on your community at the same time. Sign up to Register to Ring at a location in Des Moines today. This year, you can also give to our virtual kettle at Des Moines Virtual Red Kettle

Angel Tree

Each year dozens of businesses in the Des Metro metro serve as Angel Tree locations to ensure that thousands of children have gifts to open on Christmas Day. Donors can pick a tag with a child’s age, gender and suggested gift item, purchase a gift and then return the unwrapped gift to the Angel Tree location, where it will be donated to The Salvation Army and distributed Dec. 14 - 18. Help make the holiday special for a child in need – call Randee Wirth at 515-282-3599 for more information and to get gift tags for your Angel Tree. Toys can also be purchased through our Wal-Mart Registry For Good at Des Moines Registry For Good

Adpot-A-Family

We’ll match you with a family in need that signs up for our Toy Shop to ensure there are gifts under the tree and food on the table on Christmas. Call Leatha Hendrickson at 515-282-3599 to sign up to sponsor a family.

Toyshop

Christmas assistance sign-ups are now done online at Angel Tree Sign-Up October 19 thru November 13. The 2020 Christmas Toy Shop will distribute toys and food to families who have signed up and been given a designated pick-up time. For safety, Toys will be prebagged and handed out in a drive-thru style taking place at Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave. Des Moines IA 50310 December 14 - 18, 2020.
