Breakfast with Baby provides spiritual & material support for families in need
who have a child under 1 year and mothers 7+ months pregnant.
On the second Saturday of every month The Salvation Army in Des Plaines provides spiritual and material support for families through an innovative program called Breakfast with Baby.
Did you know that families in need of help cannot get diapers through WIC? They can’t use SNAP (food stamps) to purchase them either.
Diaper need is the struggle to provide babies with an essential need – diapers. Some mothers face having to clean out and reuse soiled diapers or have to choose between diapers and other basic needs like food. 1 in 3 American moms have had to face this choice.
If a woman is at least seven months pregnant or has a child under one year of age, she can bring her whole family to Breakfast with Baby.
After a hot breakfast, the older children go to a class where they sing, do a craft and hear a Bible story. The toddlers meet in the playroom, while the men gather in another area for an informal Bible discussion group.
The moms and toddlers then have a time of encouragement from the Bible followed by shopping. In a temporary store-type area, they can select gently-used baby clothing, toys, books, strollers (or other large items as available). All items are FREE! They then receive a package of diapers for each eligible child.
You can help mothers in the Breakfast with Baby program by making a donation online.
