The Weekly Devotion for the Week of April 8

Apr 5, 2024

We can find comfort in Jesus -- no matter what we do, we can always go to Him.

In 1 John 2:1, John refers to Jesus as our advocate. As believers, we have Jesus Christ as our heavenly advocate, representing us before God the Father. This title reassures us of Christ’s role in our lives, not only as our Savior but also as our constant intercessor.

John acknowledges the reality of sin in our lives.  He understands the struggles we face, the temptations that assail us, and the moments of weakness when we falter.  However, he offers hope amid this reality. Despite our shortcomings, we have an advocate in Jesus who understands our humanity and extends His grace to us.

Through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, we have access to forgiveness for our sins.  His blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness.  This assurance of forgiveness should not lead us to complacency but rather to gratitude and transformation.  As forgiven individuals, we are called to live lives that reflect the love and mercy we have received.

As those who have been forgiven and redeemed, we are called to live lives of holiness and obedience.  Christ’s intercession empowers us to resist sin and pursue righteousness.  We are not left to navigate this journey alone but are guided and strengthened by the Spirit of God dwelling within us.

Our advocate, Jesus Christ, stands ready to defend us, plead our case, and secure for us the forgiveness and grace we so desperately need.

May we walk in the assurance of His love, striving to live lives that honor Him and bring glory to His name.
