Helping Corinthian Connect with His Son

Feb 21, 2020

Corinthian has been in and out of prison six times. But what he considers one of the biggest challenges of his life has been learning how to connect with his son after being absent for much of his childhood.

“It was hard during my time in prison, watching my son grow up through pictures,” Corinthian said. After a difficult phone call with his son one day, Corinthian realized he needed to try something different. Thankfully, he found The Salvation Army’s Fatherhood in Action, an 8-week program that helps dads of all walks of life, including those who are or have been incarcerated.

“Fatherhood in Action, to me, is a chance to right your wrongs, find out where you made mistakes, and rebuild or build that relationship with your child,” Corinthian said, admitting it wasn’t easy to open up to the people in the program at first.

But sticking with Fatherhood in Action and the important lessons he learned there has proven worthwhile for Corinthian, whose son is now finishing up high school. “Our relationship’s at its best.”
