Project Coat Closet Provides Winter Coats To 26 Schools
It's winter in the Fox Valley and that can mean extreme cold; sometimes with deadly consequences. Some children walk to school in February in a hooded sweatshirt. No child should have to face the cold without a winter coat.
The Salvation Army responded and launched “Project Coat Closet” to make sure that every child who needs a winter coat has access to one. In cooperation with Elgin School District U-46, twenty-six elementary and middle schools with the greatest need were identified to house a Coat Closet. Elementary school closets have an initial inventory of 16 coats and middle schools, 10 coats. With support from friends like you, The Salvation Army Elgin Corps Community Center has provided 840 coats to date and is committed to meeting coat needs through the winter season.
Closets are sponsored by companies, clubs and individuals and their logo or name is proudly displayed on each closet. In addition sponsors are invited to visit the school and have their photo taken with school representatives. Photos taken so far are included in the photo album below. Currently 17 of the 26 school sites are sponsored and we want to thank them for their support and partnership to keep kids warm.

We are still in need of sponsors for our remaining 7 locations including Gifford, Laurel Hill, Ontarioville, Parkwood, Lincoln and Wayne elementary schools and Canton middle school. Sponsorship for elementary schools is $500 and $300 for middle schools.
