A Wild Time at the 2022 Walk for Justice
Lions, tigers and bears – oh my! The Salvation Army William Booth Legal Aid Clinic had a wild time at its 10th annual Walk for Justice fundraiser. Not only was it a beautiful day to explore the world-class Detroit Zoo, the event was a perfect example of community coming together to support a worthwhile cause.
The festivities kicked off with an introduction from Clinic Director Amy Roemer, welcoming families back in-person for the first time since 2019. Roemer also awarded the Honorable Denise Langford Morris, who retired in April 2022 after decades of commitment to justice, with the first annual Robert Dickman award.
There was plenty of family fun to be had as participants enjoyed refreshments, and children got their faces painted like their favorite animal. Participants also bid on more than 150 exciting items in the silent auction, all of which came from generous donors within the community.
Despite a brief hiatus due to the pandemic, Walk for Justice was wildly successful. More than 500 individuals came out to show their support, surpassing The Clinic’s $100,000 fundraising goal. All proceeds will help The Clinic continue providing free legal services to those in need throughout metro Detroit.
The Salvation Army’s William Booth Legal Aid Clinic was founded in 1994 and is the only Salvation Army free legal aid clinic in the world.
