Detroit Lions Legend Herman Moore Challenges Community To Give to The Salvation Army
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (Dec. 6, 2021) — For the second year in a row, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit 2021 Red Kettle Christmas Corporate Co-Chair, Founder & CEO of Team 84 and President of Tackle Life Foundation Herman Moore has launched the $84,000 Challenge to help the nonprofit ensure Hope Marches On for metro Detroiters in need this year. All donations, including physical kettles, text-to-give and Moore’s Virtual Red Kettle, from Friday, Dec. 10 through Monday, Dec. 13 will be fully matched, dollar-for-dollar up to $84,000, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor.
The $84,000 Challenge calls for Salvation Army supporters to donate $84, $184, $840, $8,400 or any other monetary donation they are able to provide.
“I am constantly reminded of the generosity of metro Detroiters and have no doubt they will once again step up for The Salvation Army,” said Moore. “The $84,000 Challenge was created to encourage and inspire the community. No donation is too small – it all adds up to make an impact for those who need it most.”
The legendary Detroit Lions wide receiver, who spent 11 seasons in Detroit, joins the president of AT&T Michigan and fellow Red Kettle Christmas Corporate Co-Chair David Lewis as a public face for the campaign by raising awareness and encouraging the public to help reach the nonprofit’s $8.3 million Red Kettle fundraising goal.
“It truly takes a community to lift up those who are struggling from the effects of pandemic poverty,” said Major Timothy Meyer, general secretary, metro Detroit area commander and chief operating officer of The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “We are so appreciative of Herman Moore for his $84,000 Challenge. Not only will every donation be doubled, but every dollar raised will make twice the difference to feed, shelter and support our neighbors in need.”

Following a successful 12-year career in the National Football League, Moore retired from professional football in 2002. He went on to earn accolades off the field as an NFL analyst, promotional products vendor, Cinnabon franchisee, consultant to corporate and nonprofit clients and Crain’s Detroit Business 40 under 40 honoree in 2003.
