Spirits Lifted High

Oct 16, 2020

Keia was on disability after being badly injured at work, and her family was struggling. The former schoolteacher and her husband knew that on their budget, it would be impossible to afford Christmas presents, a Christmas dinner, and coats for their children. They were passing by the Detroit Temple Salvation Army Corps Community Center one day and saw a crowd of people getting Christmas assistance. Keia came back later in the day and began to get help.

“I have a lot of pride, but The Salvation Army does not make you feel bad or ashamed for needing help. They make you feel so good about yourself, you leave there with your spirits lifted high.”

Keia received food, assistance with her bills, winter coats, and Christmas gifts for her children. Since becoming a part of the community at her local Salvation Army, she has felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders.

“Sometimes, you just can’t do it all. The Salvation Army’s programs are the best thing that happened to my family. People who want to do good should look to The Salvation Army; they set a great example.”
