The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division Welcomes New Leaders

Majors Timothy and Lori Meyer replace retired officers at Divisional Headquarters in Southfield, MI

 

The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division has recently appointed Major Timothy and Major Lori Meyer as general secretary and metro Detroit area commander, and spiritual life development secretary, respectively. Both positions are based out of The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Divisional Headquarters in Southfield, Michigan.

As general secretary, Major Timothy Meyer will serve as second in command under Lt. Col. John Turner, divisional commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. He will oversee policy and finances of the 13 metro Detroit corps community centers and staff. Major Timothy previously served as divisional secretary for The Salvation Army Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Division. He received a Bachelor of Science from Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky and a Master of Science in organizational leadership from Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.  

Major Lori Meyer will serve in a newly created role as spiritual life development secretary. As part of her position, she is responsible for implementation and effectiveness of The Salvation Army mission and providing pastoral care to retired officers residing in southeast Michigan. Prior to joining the Eastern Michigan Division, Major Lori served as women’s ministries and community care ministries for The Salvation Army Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Division. She has an Associate of Applied Science in early childhood education and training from Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan.

The new officers replace Majors Russ and Jan Sjögren who retired in the end of June after a combined 86 years of service to The Salvation Army. The Sjögrens were commissioned as Salvation Army officers in 1977 and served in a variety of roles throughout their storied career. Most recently, Major Russ served as general secretary and metro Detroit area commander for the Eastern Michigan Division while Major Jan served as divisional secretary for program. The Sjögrens will retire in Chicago, Illinois and look forward to spending time with their family which includes two children, their spouses and four grandchildren.
