All across the state of Indiana The Salvation Army is actively responding to the growing needs of their community, as a result of COVID-19. Since March 16th, The Salvation Army of Fort Wayne has operated a drive thru food pantry.
With support from businesses like Matilda Jane, Aunt Millie's, RTI, Two Men and a Truck and Domino's Pizza, our pantry has served over 320 families daily. During this pandemic, The Salvation Army of Fort Wayne has fed over 12,000 individuals in need. This would not be possible without the outstanding support of so many in the community.
Under normal circumstances, the Fort Wayne Salvation Army serves a total of 10,000 individuals annually. On April 30th, 2020, our team surpassed our yearly individuals served and to date have served 3336 families –12,927 individuals in food services alone. This is an extraordinary undertaking for our small skeleton crew of a staff to accomplish in only a few short months, what usually takes an entire year.
How can you help during this time?
As the economy will be slow to return, and as jobs and future family security remains unstable, the number of those in need show no signs of decreasing. Furthermore, other area food pantries are closing their doors due to lack of funds and quickly dwindling resources unable to meet the increased demand.
We are in desperate need of assistance to ensure those hungry in our community do not go without basic needs.

In communities across the Indiana, The Salvation Army is responding to the COVID-19 crisis and offering emotional and spiritual care to those whose lives have been touched by the spread of the coronavirus.
At The Salvation Army we are committed to serving our neighbors during this challenging time. Please join us in our prayer that compassion and wisdom lead our nation and state forward.
The Fort Wayne Salvation Army will be operating a drive up food pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 pm while supplies last.

The Salvation Army Fort Wayne is working closely with state and local agencies to address the COVID-19 outbreak. Across the country, trained Salvation Army Emergency Response staff are on standby to assist if requested.
Ensuring the safety of those who depend on The Salvation Army’s programs and services, along with the safety of staff and volunteers, is of utmost priority. We are closely tracking progress through the Center for Disease Control reporting and distributing prevention guidance to all staff, employees, volunteers, and program participants on proper hygiene and prevention.
- The Salvation Army Indiana Division is currently preparing for the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, closely following guidelines issued from government officials.
- The Salvation Army is providing emotional and spiritual care to individuals and families during this crisis to calm fears and provide a ministry of hope and encouragement.
- During this time, The Salvation Army will continue to serve in communities across Indiana. Our residential facilities, which house homeless women and children, adults in residential addiction treatment programs, and individuals and families in need of reduced cost housing options, are remaining open. Every precaution is being taken to protect these vulnerable populations from the spread of COVID-19.
- The Salvation Army Indiana Divisional headquarters is working with its corps community centers to minimize public interaction regarding its food pantries and emergency assistance.
- The Salvation Army has increased its cleaning efforts at all its facilities, including our residential facilities and kitchens. Our staff is regularly cleaning and disinfecting in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
- The Salvation Army deeply cares for our all staff, employees, volunteers and program participants. We are distributing prevention guidance on proper hygiene and prevention.
- The Salvation Army would like to remind everyone that the preventative measures put in place are to ensure everyone’s safety, health and well being.
- The Salvation Army remains in communication with local officials and will work in close partnership to prepare and respond to meet the needs of communities across Indiana.
- The Salvation Army has been serving Indiana since 1883 and will continue to do so in His name without discrimination.
