Donations to The Salvation Army's New Touchless Giving Devices to be Tripled up to $45,000

Nov 23, 2022

The Salvation Army of Central Indiana rolled out the first TipTap donation devices this fall at select Red Kettle locations across Central Indiana. Donations made using this new touchless giving option will get a big boost for seven days starting on Black Friday, all thanks to the generosity of several anonymous donors. From November 25 through December 1 these "Angel Donors" will triple TipTap donations up to $45,000.

"TipTap has given us a wonderful and secure new option for giving at the Red Kettle," said Major Rachel Stouder, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Central Indiana. "Our generous donors can now give a set amount - $5, $10, or $20 - with just a tap of their mobile phone, smartwatch, or any credit card set up for contactless payments. We're so excited that our Angel Donors are tripling these gifts for an entire week and hope that this encourages shoppers to give a little more to make an even bigger impact in our community!"

The annual Red Kettle Campaign has a goal of raising $3.4 million through the iconic Red Kettles located throughout Central Indiana. Bells started ringing early this year, which means that holiday shoppers will have plenty of opportunities to donate before Christmas. November 19 was the first day of bell ringing at Walmart and Sam's Club stores and local Kroger stores will begin hosting Red Kettles starting on Black Friday. For shoppers staying home this Christmas, Walmart is also helping out by offering online shoppers on Walmart.com the opportunity to round up their orders to the nearest dollar and donate the extra amount to The Salvation Army.

Shoppers looking for a Red Kettle and TipTap device during the $45,000 match period will also be able to find bell ringers at Big Lots, JCPenney, Cabela's, Walgreens, Emagine Theaters, Needler's Fresh Market, Hobby Lobby, and Simon Malls

The Salvation Army recognizes that online holiday shopping is preferred by many, but that doesn't mean that local residents can't participate in the annual tradition of Red Kettles and bell ringing. The 2022 Virtual Red Kettle Campaign has a goal of raising $50,000 online through a peer-to-peer fundraising platform, which allows supporters to create their own Virtual Red Kettle with a personal fundraising goal. This allows you to take an active role in supporting the organization from the comfort of your own home or business.

One of The Salvation Army's Angel Donors has offered a $5,000 match for the Virtual Red Kettle during the same dates as the $45,000 in-person TipTap match. Anyone who donates to the Central Indiana Virtual Red Kettle Campaign between November 25 and December 1 will have their donations automatically doubled until the $5,000 limit is reached. This is an exciting opportunity and gives those who cannot get out to visit a Red Kettle a chance to still double their donation during this special week.
