Surprise Gift from Kiwanis Club and Foundation of Indianapolis Increases Salvation Army Kettle Match to $150,000

Donations to Red Kettles to be doubled December 18 through Christmas Eve

The Salvation Army of Central Indiana’s upcoming Red Kettle match is now sitting at $150,000 thanks to the Kiwanis Club and Foundation of Indianapolis. Their matching funds of $50,000 will be used to double donations at physical Red Kettles and the online Virtual Red Kettle December 18 through December 24.

Electronic donations made using the Tap to Give devices on Red Kettles stands will also qualify for doubling, which means people can use cash, credit cards, or their mobile devices to make their gift to The Salvation Army of Central Indiana before Red Kettles disappear for another year.

"Kiwanians have been avid supporters of The Salvation Army for decades, and bell ringing is one of our most meaningful volunteer activities,” said Trena Roudebush, President of the Kiwanis Foundation of Indianapolis. “In honor of our Foundation’s 75th anniversary, we are thrilled to make this gift to meet the needs of children and families in the Indianapolis area during this holiday season and throughout the year.”

The annual Red Kettle Campaign has a goal of raising $3.6 million. Money donated to the iconic Red Kettles located throughout Central Indiana will be counted toward that goal. Kettles are in many locations across the metro area, including Walmart, Sam's Club, Kroger, Needler’s Fresh Market, Hobby Lobby, and many other retailers.

Volunteer bell ringers are still needed to ensure The Salvation Army hits its goal of raising $150,000 at Red Kettles in just one week. Individuals, families and groups are welcome to sign-up for a 2-hour shift at RegisterToRing.com, where they can find a location, date and time that works for their schedule.

Individuals wanting to help can also become a "virtual bell ringer" by creating their own team or fundraising page as part of The Salvation Army’s Virtual Red Kettle. The public are encouraged to take an active role in supporting The Salvation Army from the comfort of their home or business. Become a virtual bell ringer, donate, and follow the campaign live at salarmy.us/centralindianavrk2024.

“We are so grateful for the Kiwanis Club and Foundation of Indianapolis for their Red Kettle support,” said Major Malinda O’Neil, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Central Indiana. “This surprise boost will certainly help us reach our Christmas goal this year as we enter the last week of Red Kettles.”
