New Leaders assigned to Fox Cities – Majors David & Shanda Minks
(APPLETON, WI) The Salvation Army – Fox Cities recently welcomed new corps officers Majors David and Shanda Minks after the retirements of Majors Ed and Marge Jarvis. The couple will work as partners, in The Salvation Army tradition of sharing rank and duties.
The Mink’s previously served in Evansville, IN with the Indiana Division. They moved to Appleton area in June.
Major David is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a degree in social work. While in college, David discovered the importance of The Salvation Army’s youth programming – helping children to live healthy lives. David continued his education at the Salvation Army’s School for Officer Training in Chicago when in 1993 he was commissioned and ordained as a minister. Prior to that David was a homeless shelter social worker and Shanda Minks worked with a mobile meals program prior to her graduating in 2000 from the Army’s Chicago School for Officer Training. The couple has three children and they enjoy spending time with family and friends.
Major David Minks said they are excited to serve all levels of need in here in the Fox Cities. As the commanding officer, he enjoys the many unique ministries of serving the less fortunate. “People don’t care or want to change until they know how much you care,” stated Major David. He believes firmly that every person needs to be treated with love and dignity. “I just want it known that we are here for those in need,” added the Major.
