Chicago Bears Serve Food to Chicago’s Homeless
Several Chicago Bears players recently spent an afternoon with The Salvation Army visiting with clients and serving meals to Chicago’s homeless.
Veteran running back Jeremy Langford enlisted teammates Jordan Howard, Paul Lasike and David Cobb to join him in volunteering for The Salvation Army, where they served on the Mobile Feeding and Outreach unit. Langford and Howard served bowls of hearty soup and beverages while Lasike and Cobb worked the crowd, posing for photos and signing autographs. The players also handed out warm Bears knit hats.
“We’re so grateful for support from the Chicago Bears and the example they set for others,” said Major Nancy Powers, administrator at The Salvation Army’s Freedom Center. “It’s so phenomenal to see these players – our everyday heroes – out there doing something good.”
The visit was a surprise to the clients and brought lots of love and happiness. “I haven’t seen smiles like this in a long time,” said Powers.
The Chicago Bears are long-time supporters of The Salvation Army, hosting an annual coat drive with Jewel-Osco for more than 20 years.
