140 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE SALVATION ARMY BRASS BAND AT BEHIND THE RED SHIELD 2024
CELEBRATE WITH CONCERTS, OPEN HOUSE & SILENT AUCTION ON MAY 19, 2024
Come celebrate the 140th anniversary of The Salvation Army Brass Band in Grand Rapids on May 19th at Fulton Heights Citadel Corps & Community Center. It will be a day of great excitement - 10 am Worship, 2 pm Open House, featuring an opening concert, mini-experiences, and silent auction and 4 pm Anniversary Concert.
No other Salvation Army Brass Band in the United States has as long a history as the one in Grand Rapids. The first commissioned brass band of The Salvation Army in the country, which means blessed to serve in music ministry through the practice and playing of brass band music, Grand Rapids has always had an active band. Today, you can enjoy the brass band ministry of The Salvation Army in our city any Sunday at 10 am worship here at 1235 Fulton Street East. In addition, to brass band music, we also utilize choirs, praise groups and special presentations in the musical aspects of our worship experience.
The Open House from 2-4 pm on Sunday, May 19th will feature an opening concert, followed by a self-selected experience behind the red shield offering glimpses into programs like archery, group exercise classes, senior lunches, Emergency Disaster Services radio program, summer opportunities, Adult Rehabilitation Services, men's and women's ministries, youth discipleship, games, crafts, Salvation Army canteen, and more. Winners of the Silent Auction will be announced during the 4 pm Anniversary Concert, featuring our special homecoming brass band and guests Tom & Heather Hanton. This concert will feature a combination of Salvation Army original musical scores and other selections, performed by The Salvation Army Brass Band of Grand Rapids with guests, praise band, and more. You will not want to miss this special occasion!
