When God Creates the

Perfect Timing

It’s hard to find a way to pick yourself back up when you find yourself so low. Delane Tubbs, Pathway of Hope Case Manager of Gary/Merrillville, recites a story of a man’s amazing journey of change and his Pathway of Hope.

Delane recalls:

"It was my second week of working here at the Corp, I was presented with a gentleman who was looking to find employment. He was recently incarcerated at the Wisconsin State Penitentiary. He was there for 32.5 years and was discharged December 22, 2022.

Since that time, he has been working for a temp agency barely getting by due to his fluctuating hours often leaving him coming home with 6-7 hours’ worth on a paycheck. He was presently staying with his sister and her daughter with his own son residing in Wisconsin. He appeared to be a gentleman who had been broken and was looking for a second chance in life."

"What he didn’t know was that the day prior, I had communicated with the Hammond Work One to find out the services provided as well as form a potential partnership. They have a sub-program that is specifically designed to help previously incarcerated individuals for re-entry. God was already interceding in the gap. I advised this gentleman about Hammond Work One program and what it was designed to do. He agreed and thanked me in advance for any assistance because others had passed judgement or given him the runaround. An Release of Information was signed giving me consent to communicate with Work One. The following week I visited the Hammond Work One and did a follow-up with this gentleman. By happenstance, I ended up meeting the regional vice president, A. Buinicki, as well as the administrator over the regional re-entry program, J. Proctor. She ensured that she was already in contact with this gentleman.

This gentleman left me the most gracious and grateful message I’ve ever received in my professional career of human services. He advised me that he was doing very well; he found a full-time employment that was paying him $30 an hour. I told him to give GOD the glory, not myself. I am just an instrument of his will. The story gets better, I spoke with him on May 3, 2023 getting a follow-up on his journey and to receive permission to tell his story."

He stated:

“Mr. Tubbs, you can use my name, tell my story, or if you want me to come there and speak to your peoples, I will gladly do that.”

"He continued, saying that he has been grinding at this new job and so much so that he has been able to no longer live with his sister. He has been able to afford renting his own place and is slowly furnishing it."

Glory be to God!
