Help Families in Need Find a Way Through as a member of the Consortium of Hope

We are asking you to join us in serving our neighbors in need as they build better lives for themselves and their families. Across Metro Detroit, thirteen Salvation Army centers of operation are engaged in the Love Beyond Christmas campaign to raise $7.9 million to provide necessary services through 2024, and you can help!

A crucial element of our Christmas fundraising is Consortium of Hope. This campaign offers the public a dollar-for-dollar match to their donations in the last weeks of the year. Our matching funds campaign energizes people to give what they can and feel good that the impact of their gift is being doubled by the generosity of others.

This year, the Need is Greater

Shallita, a mother of two living in Pontiac, had been homeless twice, once for five years. Eventually she found herself a house, and shortly after she approached The Salvation Army. She became enrolled in the Pathway of Hope program and set goals for transportation and renewing her Esthetician license.

Her caseworker also saw that she could benefit from Christmas Assistance. The Pontiac Corps and Wallace E. Holland Community Center toy distribution and Adopt a Family programs meant Shallita would receive gifts from a donor who had "adopted" her family, as well as a gift card for a local grocery store.

The abundance of food, toys, and household items Shallita received was more than she expected. Shortly before, she had been worrying about how she could afford presents for her family. But she feels God came through for her.

“God was like ‘Go ahead, this is on me.’ I was able to get things that I asked for, my son was able to get things he wasn’t expecting to get, and my daughter just had a whole experience. I’m quite sure she’ll never forget that one Christmas.”

This is just one real example of the thousands of people who received the help they needed from The Salvation Army in the past year. Thousands of families across Metro Detroit rely on us to continue to Do The Most Good in their community.
