Red Wings Compete to Make a Goal For The Salvation Army Thursday, Dec. 9

Players Will Volunteer as Bell Ringers to Make Up Goal Deficit and Raise Vital Funds

WHAT: Detroit Red Wings players will serve as Red Kettle bellringers at three metro Detroit retail locations. Players will compete against each other to see who can raise the most to help those in need.

This is the fifth consecutive year the Detroit Red Wings and The Salvation Army are teaming up in "Red Wings for Red Kettles" to help the nonprofit reach its $7.8 million Red Kettle campaign goal to help the nonprofit meet a critical need and keep vital services operating. The organization recently announced that it is more than $5.5 million away from its$7.8 million goal, with donations down 15 percent from 2009. The campaign is facing a $400,000 goal deficit compared to this time last year.

The team will participate in a variety of activities to assist The Salvation Army in its annual holiday campaign, including placing the famous red kettles at Joe Louis Arena for four games in December.

  • Justin Abdelkader & DarrenHelm (from 4-6 p.m.) at Hockeytown Authentics, Troy
