Dick Purtan shaves off his mustache in front of The Salvation Army's Acres of Hope in Detroit, MI. At the 25th Annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon on News/Talk WJR 760, Dick Purtan challenged listeners to donate $50,000 in less than an hour. If they succeeded, he would match their $50,000 with his own donation AND shave off his iconic mustache. Needless to say, listeners and Salvation Army supporters came through, and in less than 1 hour, $100,000 was raised for The Salvation Army's Bed & Bread Program.
