Coats for KidsDonations will provide thousands of new coats for Metro Detroit children in need

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Through the generosity of many, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit and partner FM 98 WJLB were able to collect 1,241 coats and $74,728 in cash donations to date, during the charity's annual Coats for Kids Campaign. With these donations, thousands of local children will be kept warm this winter.

The 29th Annual FM 98 WJLB Coats for Kids Radiothon was held on Dec. 3 at Northland Shopping Center. Throughout the day, guests stopped by to show their support for The Salvation Army.

"Participating in Coats for Kids means a lot to me because of the impact I've seen it have on kids - including me. Years ago I actually got a coat, so to be able to give back to a cause that I've seen the firsthand effects of, means the world to me," said RCA Recording Artist Bei Maejor, who appeared at the Coats for Kids Radiothon.

The Coats for Kids campaign received donations from many local and national partners, including a $20,000 donation from the Ford Motor Company Fund. Additional sponsors include Pepsi Beverages Company, McDonald's and Bank of America.

"We're so grateful for the support WJLB continues to give The Salvation Army and our neighbors in need," said Major Mark Anderson, general secretary and metro Detroit area Commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. "With more than 15 percent of Americans living below the poverty line, it is vital that we come together as a community to protect underprivileged kids from Michigan's harsh winter."

The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is still accepting donations for Coats for Kids through Dec. 15, which can be made by calling (877) SAL-MICH or online at www.salmich.org.
