Greater Media Detroit and The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit Partner for Give and Get
Online auction, paper kettle drive to raise funds for charity’s annual Red Kettle Campaign
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit and Greater Media Detroit have joined forces for Give and Get, an online auction hosted by www.wcsx.com. The auction runs Nov. 21 through Dec. 18, and includes one-of-a-kind items from classic rockers. All proceeds benefit The Salvation Army 2011 annual Red Kettle Campaign.
Each week, new items will be announced on-air and open for bid online. Listeners can then head to www.wcsx.com to place bids or make a donation to The Salvation Army. Two to three items will be auctioned off every week, including signed guitars from rockers Deep Purple, REO Speedwagon, Grand Funk and Styx, signed drum heads from Leon Russell, Three Dog Night and Mitch Ryder and tickets to special concert and sporting events.
”We’re so thankful to WCSX for all the work they’re doing to help our mission,” said Major Mark Anderson, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “It’s partnerships like this that make our work possible. Without it, many wouldn’t be able to receive the assistance needed to get back on their feet.”
In addition to the auction, Greater Media Detroit, which includes WCSX-FM 94.7, WRIF-FM 101.1 and WMGC-FM 105. 1, has called upon its dedicated partners to help The Salvation Army – $1 at a time. Local businesses Chicken Shack, Glendale Auto Supply, Rightway Auto Sales and Co-Op Services Credit Union will host paper Red Kettles at all of their metro Detroit locations. Customers will have the opportunity to donate $1 to The Salvation Army in exchange for a paper Red Kettle that can be signed and displayed in-store.
All money raised through these promotions will go directly to The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign, the charity’s largest fundraiser of the year, to provide critical services to our neediest neighbors in 2012.
