A Brighter Holiday For Everyone
In early 2020, Jane was struggling to provide for her 3 great grandchildren, of whom she had custody and was sole caretaker. Her utilities were about to be shut off, and she didn’t know where to turn when she learned from a neighbor about how The Salvation Army Farmington Hills Corps Community Center provides utility assistance.
“Once I got there, I found out that The Salvation Army does way more than that, and I got the kids involved in the youth programs, the after school care, music camps, and community dinners,” says Jane. “The Farmington Hills corps became our church. Later on in the year, during the pandemic and with Christmas coming, I applied for the holiday assistance. I’ve been raising my great grandchildren since they were in diapers, and I’m still going strong – but I knew I would need help to give them a great Christmas.”
Jane’s great grandchildren received holiday meals for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, gifts, coats, and more. She was overjoyed to see them enjoy a holiday full of fun and warmth.
“God knows I appreciate The Salvation Army. I don’t have much, but when I’m out and I see the red kettles, I put whatever I have in there. They took care of me beyond what I expected, and they’ll take care of you, too.”
