Bringing Hope and Help in the Midst of COVID-19 in Bay City

Apr 3, 2020

With a presence in almost every ZIP code in America, The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to respond to the unique needs of people living in poverty. These challenges are exponentially magnified during times of crisis, including pandemics like coronavirus (COVID-19). Across the United States, we are stepping up to the challenge and continue to serve the most vulnerable populations in each community. This is just one of many stories of how we are meeting the needs of those who rely on The Salvation Army during difficult times.

From Majors Kim and Rick Ray:

Greetings from The Salvation Army Bay City Corps! We are still feeding people...we are still sharing the hope and love of Jesus! We have been serving about 200 people per day in our lunch program and have served over 300 families with food boxes per week.

We took badge bags for the kids in our character building programs that had activities to earn 3 badges, some goodies for the kids, a family game, and some fruit to our youth night children. This also gave us a chance to check in with the families and make sure they were ok.

We are so grateful for our volunteers who have helped us tackle the challenge of serving thousands of meals every week! Everyone in our community, from young adults to college students to working families to retired folks, has pitched in at the corps to get the job done.

In this chaotic time, we are keeping in mind Isaiah 26:3: "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."

If you need help or want to give help, find your local Corps Community Center and get connected! You can also make a donation to support our work in your community.
