Bringing Hope and Help in the Midst of COVID-19 in Farmington Hills
With a presence in almost every ZIP code in America, The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to respond to the unique needs of people living in poverty. These challenges are exponentially magnified during times of crisis, including pandemics like coronavirus (COVID-19). Across the United States, we are stepping up to the challenge and continue to serve the most vulnerable populations in each community. This is just one of many stories of how we are meeting the needs of those who rely on The Salvation Army during difficult times.

We have been able to serve so many families in need with our food boxes, which can last family of four for three days. They include groceries to make dinner, fresh produce, snacks, fruit, and desserts. Every Wednesday, we put boxes in the back of people’s cars in our drive through, and we are making the process as contactless as possible. Everyone’s health and safety are our priority. Every Thursday, we are putting on our Grab ‘n’ Go Dinner for families that drive through so they can get a cooked meal. For families who aren’t able to travel to us for various reasons, our drop-off team goes out to them and delivers meals. Some people who lack transportation are relying on us for daily meals, and we are fighting hard to meet the needs in our community, both physically and spiritually. On Saturdays, we drop off about 65 meals with a devotional in it. We are also making activity bags for kids with toys, games and gifts.
One particular family that we helped consists of a single mother of five children whose grandmother also lives with them. This family was struggling before COVID-19 became an issue, and when the pandemic started, the mother lost her job and was unable to afford diapers for her youngest child. The Farmington Hills Corps is providing her with diapers as well as food and snacks. When we hear about a family in need, we try to go above and beyond to do everything we can do help.
